Vitrinite reflectances and mineralogy of coal clasts in the Late Carboniferous sequences in the two-deep research wells from the Kozlu coalfield (Zonguldak Basin, NW Türkiye)

Fifty-four coal clast samples in the siliciclastic rocks (e.g., sandstone and conglomerate) were collected from cores of two-deep research wells (K20H K20K) drilled at Kozlu coalfield Zonguldak Basin, for first time, they evaluated using mineralogy by XRD SEM-EDX random vitrinite reflectance (%Rr) measurements order to find out their origin timing. Petrographic observations on polish surfaces show that clasts are either entirely xylitic/vitrinitic particle or coals including a broader range macerals. The detected minerals mostly derived parental seams and, lesser extent, precipitated penetrated pore-water cleats/fractures clasts. %Rr values Carboniferous sediments generally relatively higher than measured due weak oxidation during transportation. Furthermore, similar mineralogical maceral compositions between imply these mainly eroded peatification and/or early coalification display patterns. close value sample Early Aptian Formation could suggest this is presumably Aptian.
